Glass Recycling Pilot Launches at the Fairfax Campus

Mason community members听can recycle glass bottles and jars at new drop-off locations on the Fairfax Campus. The trailers are large, purple, and labeled with helpful glass recycling information.听听

Drop-off bins will be available on the following schedule: 听听

  • First and third weeks of the month:听Southside Dining Hall and Lot R (near Potomac Heights) 听听
  • Second and fourth weeks of the month:听Rogers Hall and the Student Townhouses 听听

Recycling glass means less sand mining and less production of new glass.听Review Mason鈥檚听听to dispose of all waste correctly.听For questions, contact the Facilities Customer Service Center at 703-993-2525 or email听gogreen@gmu.edu.


Mason Shuttles Updates

Spring Shuttle Service
There are some significant changes to Mason Shuttle service for the spring semester:听听

  • Fairfax/SciTech:听Departure times have changed. The scheduled time between Sandy Creek and Colgan Hall has been reduced from 80 minutes to 70 minutes. Weekend service departure times have changed, as well as service is being expanded.听听
  • West Campus:听There will be one bus on the West Campus route Monday鈥揊riday, with service every 40 minutes between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.听听
  • Gunston Mason:听A second bus has been added to the Gunston Mason route between 8:45 a.m. and 6:45 p.m., Monday鈥揊riday.听听
  • Fairfax/Mason Square:听The Commerce Building on University Drive has been added as a stop on this route.听听听听

Reminder: Fairfax/SciTech Shuttle Survey
Parking and Transportation, in partnership with the Shuttle Advisory Committee, invites faculty, staff, and students to complete a short survey on the Fairfax/SciTech Shuttle. They are interested in hearing from those who currently use the shuttle, as well as those who live in Prince William County or points further west and do not currently use the shuttle. 听

The survey should take less than five minutes to complete. This is purely informational; no changes to the route are currently in development. The survey will be open through January. .听

Mason Night with the Washington Capitals听

Celebrate Mason Night with the Washington Capitals. The Mason Nation will fill the arena to watch the Caps take on the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday, March 20.听

Join an optional pregame reception at Yard House from 6鈥7:30 p.m. before attending the hockey game at 7:30 p.m.听

The Capitals are offering an array of special ticket pricing options, along with a Mason and Capitals co-branded baseball hat.听.听


Build Connections at Mason through听a ProjectConnect Group

Connect with others in the Mason community and strengthen your well-being through a spring 2024 ProjectConnect group. Register by Wednesday, Jan. 17. 听听

ProjectConnect听helps faculty and staff build a stronger community and enhance workplace well-being at Mason. Faculty and staff who participate in听ProjectConnect听will meet in groups of 4鈥6 participants over the course of five one-hour sessions and engage in a series of thought-provoking questions and fun activities. . Galileo's Science Caf茅 听

Galileo鈥檚 Science Caf茅 is starting the spring semester with a free science discussion on Thursday, Jan. 18, from 6鈥9 p.m. at the SciTech Campus. This month鈥檚 topic, 鈥淎rtificial Intelligence (AI) and Spatiotemporal Methodologies for Climate Factor Analysis,鈥 will be presented by Qian Liu, research assistant professor, geography and geoinformation science. 听

The evening will start with a light dinner from Mum Mum Thai,听followed by the presentation in Verizon Auditorium in Colgan Hall. The event is open to the community, so bring your family and friends. Learn more and .听


Love to Bike? Winter Bike to Mason Day Is Friday, Feb. 9

Winter Bike to Work Day is the Friday before Valentine鈥檚 Day. Join Mason Parking and Transportation听on Friday, Feb. 9, for a little bike love. Stop by the Merten Hall Lawn on the Fairfax Campus between 7:30鈥9:30 a.m. with your bike for a beverage and some biking-related giveaways.听


Register for a Faculty/Staff Book Discussion Group about Friendship

Fostering a sense of belonging and deepening our social connections are integral to well-being. Mason students, faculty, and staff are invited to join the Center for the Advancement of Well-Being and ProjectConnect for a听听on the topic of friendship. 听听

Learn how to enjoy strong friendships in an era of distraction, burnout, and chaos鈥攅specially in a society that often prizes romantic love at the expense of other relationships. In听Platonic, Marisa G. Franco explains that to make and keep friends you must understand your attachment style: secure, anxious, or avoidant. That is the key to unlocking what鈥檚 working (and what鈥檚 failing) in your friendships. Participants will receive a free copy of the book.听

The Rick Holt Active Transportation Advocate Award honors Rick, 鈥渢he Mason bike dude,鈥 who passionately advocated for and encouraged active transportation at Mason and beyond. Nominations are open for this award. The awardee will be recognized at the Outstanding Achievement Awards in April. 听

Veterans and the Arts Initiative: Upcoming Workshops听

罢丑别听听at the Hylton Performing Arts Center serves as an arts and community hub for military-connected people. The program offers free, hands-on workshops, art exhibitions featuring veterans鈥 artwork, and concerts for local veterans, servicemembers, and military family members.听听听听听听

Have you always wanted to try the guitar or refresh your skills? Musicians of all skill levels are invited to participate听in a 10-week series of virtual lessons with Glen McCarthy, guitar instructor for the Veterans and the Arts Initiative. Workshops are offered at and . The workshops are open and free to veterans, servicemembers, military family members, and military caregivers.
